4 Girls 4 Me

This life, therefore, is not godliness but the process of becoming godly, not heatlh but getting well, not being but becoming, not rest but exercise. We are not now what we shall be, but we are on the way. The process is not yet finished, but it is actively going on. This is not the goal, but it is the right road. At present, everything does not gleam and sparkle, but everything is being cleansed. - Martin Luther

Wow... What happened? - Updated 10-2-05

I think for the last month I've been trying to find time just to sit down and update this blog. I cannot believe that it has taken me this long. I'm embarrassed. Here's an overview of what's happened this past month:

My two oldest, Hannah and Mackenzie started school on the 6th of this month. For Hannah it was old school. She's in Third Grade and seems to have a handle on what to expect. The funny thing is that the teacher she didn't want, the teacher who is the "meanest teacher ever," her words not mine, is now her teacher. She loves her. Hannah said that she is strict, but only with the ones that misbehave. I'm glad she is learning about preconceived notions and their ability to just be plain wrong.

Mackenzie has embarked on her formal schooling. She is now a kindergartener and loving it. She gets to go to the same school as her big sister and ride the bus to and from school. We noticed that the first couple of weeks she was very tired. In fact, she still falls asleep on the bus ride home. It takes a lot of you... all this learning and activities. But she is doing good and we are so proud of her.

Speaking of Mackenzie, she has finally learned to ride her bike. If you know anything about #2, you know that she marches to her own drummer. This wonderful child always has a song in her head or a dance in her step. While this is a good thing, it can at times distract her from whatever is the task at hand. One day she really wanted to try her bike again. It had been sometime since she had attempted the two-wheeled monster so I thought we would have a good opportunity to succeed. Low and behold she did. She just started peddling and the rest is history.

Zoe has become a walker. I think because of her small frame and strong legs, she has mastered (well almost) the task of being a biped at 10 months. She gets so excited and her new found ability. Zoe has been an amazement to us. She is totally, 100% different in every way, than her two siblings. Now some of you with children will go, "DUH!" But others will know what I'm talking about. She is not a napper; Mackenzie is and Hannah can be. She is not a great eater; Mackenzie and Hannah are. It is hard to pacify her; Mackenzie and Hannah can be. But she is also more adventurous, more attune to her surroundings and more independent than the older two. Everything we learned about parenting from Hannah and Mackenzie has been almost useless with Zoe. She is challenging us and that's ok, 'cause she loves us and we love her!

Hannah had the opportunity to travel with the Youth Group to Magic Mountain this past Friday. I've never known her to back down from any challenge or scared of anything. She is a dare devil. Our first ride was called Scream. It is not a ride for the faint of heart. In fact, I think one of our youth passed out from the G's. Having concurred this ride, we went and rode every other coaster in the park. One thing that I wanted to do while I was there was ride Dive Devil. It is like a swing but crazier. After you're strapped into this ride (you're laying down like Superman), they hoist you up 175 feet and then let you drop on 50 foot free fall and then it swings out 180 feet to the opposite side (picture a pendulum). I tried to get my friend Ian to go with me, but he didn't want to. I then asked Hannah. She asked this one simple question: "What happens if the cable breaks?" I told her the truth: "You die." This little 8 year old girl had no second thoughts.

As we were being lifted to our ultimate death. She calmly talked about the people looking at us. As we were being lifted to our ultimate demise and an early meeting with our Maker, people on the ground were asking our friends watching, "how old is that girl?" What's her dad letting her do that for?"

At the peak of our lift, I had the joy to pull the rip cord that would plunge us to our certain splattering. What a ride!!! We were both laughing and giggling as we swung past our admirers. I will try and post the video later.

Here's the video...

If you haven't had the opportunity, I suggest that you pick up a copy of Casting Crowns new album, Lifesong. It is a wake up call for the Church in general. The first time I listened to it, I had to repent. You can download it from SongTouch for 10 bucks.

Until next time...
